She Was Pregnant and Asked for a Piece of Bread… I Never Expected What She Left Behind

Just before closing, a pregnant woman in need came into our local bakery, asking for bread. She hadn’t eaten all day and had no money. I gave her a fresh loaf anyway.

Before leaving, she handed me a simple hairpin. “You’ll need this one day,” she said.

I was fired for the act of kindness. Weeks later, I found a note from her: “Kindness costs, but it never goes unpaid.”

That same night, a small café hiring listened to my story and gave me a job. Later, I learned the woman was safe, supported by a community charity. Soon after, she sent me a small gift and a note of thanks.

I still keep the hairpin as a reminder: kindness always comes back.
