My dad’s a plumber, and once he did a full bathroom remodel for neighbors who tried to scam him.
On the final day, they suddenly said they “didn’t like the tiles” — even though they picked everything — and told him they’d only pay half.
Dad stayed calm. He finished the job perfectly… but used a temporary grout that dissolves with water.
The next morning, their first shower ruined everything.
They called him freaking out.
Dad said, “Happy to fix it — once I’m paid in full, up front.”
They paid immediately. He redid the bathroom properly, charged an emergency fee, and left.
Then they left him a fake one-star review.
Big mistake.
Dad went to court with photos, texts, approvals, and invoices. The judge ruled fully in his favor and ordered them to pay double for withheld payment and defamation.
Moral of the story:
Don’t try to scam a plumber. 🔧
Especially one who keeps receipts.
