I’m a single mom and nurse, so when work called me in early, my trusted friend Owen offered to drive my 10-year-old daughter Greta to summer camp.
An hour later, the camp administrator called.
“Greta is safe, but you need to come. It’s about the man who brought her.”
When I arrived, Greta was crying. Owen had shown the camp screenshots proving several girls had been bullying her for weeks and asked staff to separate them. He hadn’t called me because Greta begged him not to.
Then another mother arrived with a shocking discovery: Greta had secretly sent an embarrassing photo of her daughter to classmates with a cruel caption.
Greta admitted it.
“I wanted her to know what it felt like.”
Suddenly, it was clear that neither side was completely innocent.
The girls were separated, consequences were given, and I asked Greta, “If they weren’t here, would you still want to stay?”
“Yes.”
So she stayed.
Two weeks later, she came home happy, talking about camp nonstop. Then she quietly said, “Next time, I’ll tell you.”
I smiled and squeezed her knee.
“Good.”
