The Light That Annoyed Me
Every night my neighbor left all his lights on—kitchen, hallway, even the lamp facing my bedroom window. I complained more than once. It felt wasteful.
He never argued.
He never explained.
He just kept the lights on.
One night the entire building lost power—except his apartment. Curious, I looked. Inside were dozens of candles glowing around him as he quietly stared at a photo.
The next morning a neighbor told me the truth.
His wife had been very sick and afraid of the dark. So he promised to keep the lights on every night so she’d never feel alone.
She passed away last year.
But he never stopped keeping the lights on.
Now when I see his apartment glowing at night, it doesn’t annoy me anymore.
It looks like love that refuses to go out. ❤️
