I never believed in “taking a break” in a relationship — it’s either on or off.
When he said he needed space to “work on himself,” I respected it. Weeks went by with no calls, no texts. That’s when I realized… it wasn’t space. He had ghosted me.
While healing, I started volunteering at an animal shelter and fell in love with a senior dog. Three days later, he came home with me. My ex was allergic, so a dog was never an option before — but now it didn’t matter.
Six weeks later, he showed up with flowers, claiming the break was a “loyalty test.” When he saw the dog, he said I failed.
I didn’t fail. I passed.
Real love doesn’t test you. It doesn’t disappear to see if you’ll chase it.
