Four years after my husband passed away, I discovered a secret I never expected.
Six weeks ago, a process server came to my door trying to serve my late husband papers for a DNA test involving another child. I showed them his death certificate and thought that was the end of it.
Then a woman showed up claiming her child was his.
I was shocked. I never imagined he could have betrayed me like that. She later returned with a DNA test and demanded a share of his “estate.”
The truth? My husband had nothing.
The only asset we ever had—a rental property from his parents—was owned jointly with survivorship rights, meaning when he died, it legally became mine. I’ve already sold it, and that money will help send my son to college.
I do feel sorry for the other child. But my responsibility is to my son and his future.
Sometimes losing someone isn’t the hardest part…
it’s discovering who they really were.
What would you do in my situation?
