Jack and I had barely moved into our temporary rental when our neighbor Lindsey welcomed us with cookies—and a reminder about the neighborhood rule allowing only one vehicle per driveway.
We had two cars, but since we were staying only briefly, we didn’t think much of it.
A few days later, before sunrise, we woke up to the sound of tow trucks. Both of our cars were being towed. Across the street, Lindsey stood calmly watching with her morning coffee.
But there was a problem: one of our vehicles had a specialized work sticker, meaning the towing required proper verification and authorization.
When the homeowners’ association discovered what had happened, management stepped in. The improper request, towing fees, and protocol violations created a major financial liability.
Lindsey’s confidence quickly disappeared.
