My 70-year-old grandmother received a Valentine’s card from Todd, the man she had loved 50 years ago. She refused to see him, afraid of reopening old wounds, but I convinced her to take the chance.
They had met in Paris and promised to reunite one year later. But her mother died just before their planned meeting, and without phones or a way to reach him, they lost each other.
On Valentine’s Day, I took Grandma to the train station. Todd wasn’t there—his grandson explained that Todd was now afraid to meet her.
Eventually, we went to Todd’s home.
When the door opened, Todd looked at my grandmother and whispered, “Mary…”
Through tears, she asked, “You remember me?”
“How could I ever forget?”
After 50 years apart, they finally held each other again. Neither could change the past, but they realized they still had time to forgive, reconnect, and make new memories.
That Valentine’s Day taught me something unforgettable: sometimes love gets lost, but it doesn’t always disappear.
