When my mother became seriously ill, I became her full-time caregiver. For nearly a year, I cooked, cleaned, managed her medication, helped her bathe, drove her to appointments, and put my own life on hold.
After Mom recovered, she shocked me by demanding rent and comparing me to my sister Nora, who sent her $500 a month.
Then Nora revealed the truth: Mom had changed her will, leaving the entire house to her because she believed Nora had contributed more.
Heartbroken, I confronted Mom with Nora. Mom eventually admitted she had confused financial support with love and security.
In the end, we rewrote the will equally. I later moved out to rebuild my own life.
Mom finally realized I never lived there for free—I paid with my time, strength, and heart.
