My mother-in-law Grace was staying with us for just ten days, but by day five, she had completely crossed the line. She walked into our bedroom without knocking, searched through our things, and even picked up my birth control.
Then I came home to find our bedroom door completely removed.
Grace said her son had “nothing to hide” from her. But Harold finally decided enough was enough.
That night, he removed the doorknob from her room.
Suddenly, Grace understood exactly what privacy meant.
The next morning, Harold told her she could stay—but only if she respected our boundaries. By the time her stay was over, something had changed.
Grace knocked before entering.
And for the first time all week, our bedroom finally felt like ours again.
