My son Ryan learned his girlfriend, Shelly, was pregnant during his final year of college. He agreed to a DNA test, which supposedly confirmed he was the father. Ryan decided to marry her.
But after I suggested an independent test, Shelly accused me of calling her a liar. She turned Ryan against me and eventually gave him an ultimatum: apologize or I couldn’t attend the wedding.
I refused to apologize for something I hadn’t done.
Then, two weeks before the wedding, Shelly’s mother called me with shocking news: “The DNA test was a lie.”
The results had been manipulated, and Ryan wasn’t the baby’s biological father. Evidence also showed Shelly had been seeing other men.
The wedding was canceled, and Ryan was devastated. But with time, he rebuilt his life and learned a painful lesson: love requires trust, but never blind loyalty.
