When I was six, my stepfather told my mother, “Put her up for adoption. I want my own DNA in my family.” I never forgot those words. Their constant fighting eventually became unbearable, and at 16, I left home and cut contact with him.
Years later, he unexpectedly stormed into my wedding just before the ceremony. In front of everyone, he confessed that he and my mother had been involved before my biological father died—and that he had secretly taken a paternity test.
The results revealed something shocking: he was actually my biological father.
He admitted that his anger over the past had caused him to punish both my mother and me. I was devastated, angry, and unable to suddenly see him as my father after years of emotional pain.
But one heartbreaking thought stayed with me: “If only I had known the truth earlier.”
