After losing his wife, Claire, a father was left raising their 15-year-old daughter, Liz, alone. When he remarried Jenna, she seemed caring and promised to support Liz.
At first, everything seemed fine. But Jenna slowly began criticizing Liz’s weight, food, and appearance. One day, the father noticed Liz was afraid to eat a cookie without Jenna’s permission.
Then he came home early and caught Jenna screaming at Liz while measuring her waist with a tape measure. Liz was crying.
He immediately realized this wasn’t discipline—it was damaging his daughter’s confidence and relationship with food. Without blaming Liz or giving Jenna another chance to excuse her behavior, he told Jenna to leave.
Later, Liz found the measuring tape Jenna had used. It belonged to her late mother, Claire.
She quietly returned it to her mother’s sewing box. Then, for the first time in nearly a year, the father heard something he had desperately missed.
Liz was humming again—the same way her mother used to.
