At his birthday dinner, he mocked her again, saying, “If intelligence were money, we’d still be living in a tent.”
She looked at him and calmly said, “Repeat that.”

“I wrote your college papers. I prepared your presentations. I spent 30 years making sure everyone believed you were the brilliant one.”
No one could speak.
“I never wanted recognition,” she said. “I only wanted respect.”
She walked away, leaving him without laughter or excuses.
Months later, he apologized, admitting he mocked her because he felt threatened by her intelligence.
