After their father died from pancreatic cancer, an 11-year-old girl was left without parents. She had two options: live with her uncle or her much older brother, who had always been more like a father figure. She chose her brother.
But there was a major problem. The husband and his wife had agreed they never wanted children. His wife refused to take in the girl, arguing that raising her would make them parents.
The brother couldn’t turn his sister away after such a devastating loss. He told his wife that his sister would live with him, even if it meant ending their marriage.
They eventually decided to divorce.
A week later, the man shared that living with his sister was challenging, but he was happy to be there for her. Many Reddit users supported his decision, saying the grieving child deserved a loving home, while others understood why his wife wasn’t prepared to raise a child.
